Hi loves! Last Friday I went to the Kruidvat on my lunchbreak, hoping to find the new Catrice polishes. I found an untouched display of them! I was so happy to see the new colors in store as I was very curious about a lot of them. I wanted to buy some more but mainly because I know swatches are always appreciated. They just wouldn't be colors I'd wear usually so they'll probably show up once, just not right away ;-). Please hit the read more button after the first picture to see all swatches I did!
Let's start with some info on the new line. The reason Catrice discontinued the complete collection was because this would be a new formula, also the brush got replaced. I must say I don't really get the new formula part, they aren't magic one coaters now. I also did not dislike the previous formula. The brush.. yeah. It got even worse I think. The first brush Catrice used was a nice, flat kind of brush. Not too wide, easy to control. They replaced it with a kind of OPI brush, but more rounded on the bottom. A little bit harder to manage but once you got used to it, it's fine. Now, it is still the same width, but there seem to be a bit more bristles making this brush more fat (spreading out more over the nail, which is hard to handle on small nailbeds) and the quality control seems to be gone, as most brushes are crooked in the bottle cap! They point to one side like they got hit or something. Poor brush. The amount of polish remained the same, the bottle shape remained the shape (though there now is a small dent in the bottom of the bottle instead of being flat), the bottle cap now has Catrice on top of it in relief. The price has been raised from € 2,69 to € 2,99. I don't see a reason why the price should have been increased.
Now, for the swatches! I'll tell you how many coats were used per swatch, I used Essence Studio Nails 24/7 Nail Base as basecoat, Essence Better Than Gel Top Sealer for topcoat.
Catrice Hugo Moss. This is a bright green jelly on the first coat, but builds up to a dark green. You can see on the edges how bright it actually is. On the bottle there is a recommendation to wear basecoat and I really think you should with this shade!

I needed 2 coats and this felt a bit watery/thin, though it has no problem i building up to opacity. The formula just didn't feel as buttery as I like with creme based colors.

This applied very well, a good formula and 2 coats. This also has the basecoat recommendation and looking at the color I'd say they are right about that.

This is in daylight! |

Application was fine, more creamy than Purple Reign and opaque in 2 coats. The shimmer is nicely pronounced but not overwhelming, it's a good mix.

I needed 2 coats for opacity and this applied so good. The gold shimmer seems to be the same kind as the next polish has, and it applied equally good. maybe the shimmer helps?

Application was a breeze, this is the formula I love! Creamy, buttery, glides on easy, not pooling my cuticles. 2 coats and you are done!
I immediately thought of this one as a dupe for Butter London Two Fingered Salute, though I do think it might be more of a sisterhood rather than identical twins with these. What do you think?

Thanks for this post! I was searching for swatches of some of these new polishes everywhere and just stumbled upon your blog. Great photos :) I love how Purple Reign and Shopping Day At Bluemingdales look! I'll definitely have a look at these in my local drugstore :)
ReplyDeleteI love you choise, I think I'll get all 6 polishes, you swatched. I'm dissapointed, that they changed the brush, I really liked the old one. Great post and swatches, can't wait that our stores get a new display. :)

Love your choice of colours! Mint me up is stunning! <3 And I love Petrolpolitan and Purple Reign, both look amazing. Hugo Moss is such an interesting polish, you practically can get more shades, depending on how many coats you put on. I like the jelly finish of this one. And the blue is really nice shade! Amazing swatches!!*-*
ReplyDeleteOhhh that mint! It doesn't look like a 100% dupe to the BL one, I think this one has more shimmer but its so gorgeous anyway! I should live in Europe for a while.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome! Hope you enjoy it here and stick around ^^.
ReplyDeleteYou totally should, I am quite pleased by this new release!

ReplyDeleteThere isn't unfortunately.. I'm sorry :(.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment! I hope to compare those 2 in the future :).
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna buy you some too so these 3 beauties are most definitely yours too in the future! Only difference is there is now a logo in relief on the cap. The shape and size still is the same (phfew! I hate different bottle shapes, it organizes so badly)
ReplyDeleteI'm most certainly buying you these! I ADORE that mint one so much.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry :(. Maybe there is someone that would mule them for you? If you can't find anyone just drop me a line at lvcamblog [at] gmail [dot] com and let me see what I can do!

ReplyDeleteCome live with me ^^ we could go crazy polish shopping haha! If you ever need someone to mule them for you... you know where to find me ;). Yes the gold shimmer that lays on top seems to be unique to this one, I am curious how much the basecolors are alike.
ReplyDeleteNext Thursday I'm gonna have a look around, maybe my beloved store added the new line line! I'm longing for that Purple Reign! I finally found Essence's new line today. <3 Cannot wait to swatch them!
ReplyDeleteFortunately yes, the two big supermarket chains here in Switzerland both sell them. The new polishes haven't arrived yet, though...
ReplyDeleteYay! I'm excited!! I am so into mint right now.
ReplyDeleteOh you are from Switzerland? Which city? Glad you have access :).
ReplyDeleteI live in Lucerne, where all the tourists are ;-)

ReplyDeleteMint Me Up... ♥♥♥♥♥
ReplyDeleteI love them all!!! Great swatches!
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty pictures!! I think I might need to get Mint me up and Squeeze me when there is a sale sometime
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this I went right to get Mint Me Up and I'm in love with it!:)
ReplyDeleteFYI, Mint Me Up and Two Fingered Salute are NOT dupes, they're very similar but not dupes. Both have copper flecks but they're not very pronounced in MMU like they are in TFS. Because of that, the TFS appears darker and dustier while the pronounced gold shimmer in MMU makes it look lighter and with a slightly blue leaning mint color. I was worried about buying MMU since it's expensive to ship to the US but I think I like it better than TFS!
