Essence Cool Breeze over China Glaze Bermuda Breakaway

Hi loves! How are you doing? Have you purchased any fun polish lately? As I am writing this post it is Friday night which means tomorrow I'll be spending the day in Germany - hopefully I'll find some great P2 & Kiko polishes!

Today I am showing you a combo I am still unsure about.. Essence Cool Breeze is one of the Nail Art Special Effect toppers and still available in the core collection. I loved how mermaid-y this looke din the bottle so I grabbed it a while back, and left it untried for months. Yeah, that happens. Well, I had another one of my "gotta-bring-down-those-untrieds" tantrums and grabbed this to use. Choosing a basecolor wasn't hard, I immediately thought of the gorgeous blue that is called China Glaze Bermuda Breakaway (I named it Calypso Blue in my filename.. why?). The beauty of this polish is that it is dark, squishy, but also recognizable blue in every light. I needed 2 coats and let it dry a bit.

After that I applied Essence Cool Breeze. This has the weirdest, most gel like consistency ever. It is stuffed with glitter but because the base is SO thick, you can't really manipulate the amount of glitter on the brush and therefore end up with bald spots. I used a toothpick and a dab of polish on a plate to sort that out, I didn't want to apply a second layer.

The glitter is so lovely and iridescent, but it was very hard to capture. It also seems to sink a bit into the polish (when my TC was dry it could see little dents where each glitter piece was). The smaller glitter didn't really add anything for me, and because of the weird consistency I don't think I'll use it ever again. Bummer :-(.

How do you feel about this glitter topper? Any experience with it?

  1. I think it looks really cool, but I must admit that working with a toothpick like you did would have put me off entirely.

  2. Wat jammer dat hij zo vervelend lakt. De combinatie is wel erg mooi.
Ik heb 'm ook maar nog nooit gebruikt.

  3. Pretty combination, but it's a shame about the base being so thick! Application doesn't sound fun at all. I also absolutely hate when it seems like a polish has too much base in comparison to the amount of glitter and it's so hard to get even a few pieces on the nail.

  6. May I say I'm in love with your basecolour? :D My choice was between BB and Calypso Blue, I ended up with CB though <3
About the topper...what to say, I'm not a glitter girl at all...and I do not like when toppers are so thick you cannot distribute glitters equally...it is a no for me this time :D
