Hi loves! A prepped post today as I am spending quality time with my best friend and probably am very tired form all the shopping ;-).
A while back I felt the urge to do a dotticure and try to make huge dots. I actually bought some pencils with those little erasers on the end, just for this purpose. So, I started with a base of OPI Uh-oh Roll Down The Window (2 coats) and let it dry for a bit. By the way, do you think this color is way cool or disgusting? I love it, especially the name LOL! Then, I grabbed Catrice In The Bronx, OPI My Vampire Is Buff and OPI I Eat Mainly Lobster and used some dotting tools to create an arrangement of dots.
I wasn't very pleased with the look.. I think the large dots didn't came out pretty as the polish used was a bit sheer, also because of my curved nailbeds I had a hard time creating a nice round dot. They turned out more of an oval shape. Also, the colors together look a bit.. sickly? Oh well, sometimes you just have something in your head that does not work out the way you want it, right :-).
Do you like this dotticure? And any recommendations on how to get large dots?
I think you got it right with the large dots. How about a monochrome color scheme, like all blues or all greens or something? I think I would like to see something like that!
ReplyDeleteI actually really like this!! It's very unique and different. I also love how all the colors work together even though they're more nontraditional. I really do love this!
ReplyDeleteI quite like this! It is different but I like the color combination!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the base color (how have I never heard of this OPI shade??), sickly greens are some of my absolute favorite polishes! I think the whole look is super fun & funky but I know how it is when you have an idea in your head but it just doesn't come together on the nail the way you envisioned. I'm going to keep checking back because I've been wanting to make XL dots also! :)
ReplyDeleteWell, it's definitely interesting. LOL. For big dots, use a hole puncher (the ones for paper) and punch a hole in a piece of tape. That will give you perfectly round dots :)
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a blast with your bestie!
I do like it actually, maybe I'm weird ;)
ReplyDeleteHmm, I actually quite like this! The colors, I think, actually go really well together. I wish I could put together contrasting colors like this, but I always seem too out there or something! The colors actually kinda remind me of the 70's (not that I was alive then, but being an early 80's kids, my parents had lots of 70's stuff, lol).
ReplyDeleteI was thinking you could get some thin foam craft shapes and glue a circle to the end of a pencil eraser. The foam is bendy and a bit more like the foam on stampers. Plus they may have other small shapes.
ReplyDeleteThe colors are *soclose* but not ugly!! I grew up in the 70's too LOL. I like the big dots!!
Lovely Christmas dotticure ;)
ReplyDeleteThey're both so cool!
ReplyDeleteUp really is such a beautiful film.. But at first I thought Deb's dots are from Madagascar (Marty's afro circus polka dot song) :D
I took quite a leap in my own trust too haha, but I am glad you enjoy it :-). Sometimes you just have to try and see if it works out or not, you might surprise yourself :-). And 70's it is indeed!
ReplyDeleteWell aren't you a TRUE Craft Angel? Might be worth a shot, only thing I worry about is the foam soaking up too much polish to deliver a clean stamp. But worth a shot :).
ReplyDeleteGlad you like it!
Thanks :)!
ReplyDeleteHaha it does look festive ;-).
ReplyDeleteI like it. Nice to see something different and unusual. The colors look good together :-)
ReplyDeleteOooooh YES Circus Afro ♥. Thanks dear!
ReplyDeleteThank you Lani :-).
ReplyDeleteHee well I do try ;) I don't think the foam will soak up polish. It's a "thicker" foam than makeup sponges. My kids have used it for craft projects w/ glue--nothing soaks thru. And it's thin enough you should be able to use a hole punch or craft punch. Glad I could help :) If it works, LMK!
ReplyDeleteYou know, this kind of reminds me of this manicure http://www.lovevarnish.com/search/label/splattering :D
ReplyDeleteI like the colour combination!
