Swatches & Review - F.U.N Lacquer Summer 2014

Hi loves! Today I have a super fun and gorgeous collection for you: the yet to be released Summer 2014 collection from F.U.N Lacquer! These will be available on pre sale May 26th 12.30am SGT (you save a dollar on a full size bottle!) from YuinYing's new website.

This collection consists of 5 "core" shades, 1 bonus and 1 now limited edition. The 5 core shades are Evening Gown (a dark purple), Margarita Cocktail (a yellow/green shade), Mowed Meadow (a very vivid green), Radiance (a true red) and Starry Night Of The Summer (a deep dark blue). Then There's TGIF, the bonus shade. YuinYing created this with Enchanted Polish Austin Powers in the back of her head, but I can't comment on them being dupes since I don't own any EP's. Last but not least, the now limited edition shade is Uniform for Summer: Bikini. This has some staining issues but customers requested for this shade to be released, so all bottles already made will be sold at a discounted price.

My first impression of this collection was great, the formula's are all really nice though there are some differences in opacity, and the colors are all very pretty. The holo flame isn't as strong in each shade but always easily spotted.

F.U.N Lacquer Summer 2014 Evening Gown holographic
F.U.N Lacquer Evening Gown is a dark purple holographic shade. It's a very dark shade for summer but it truly does remind me of evening gowns, or very luxurious jewelry with large gemstones. It has a great formula, slightly thick but therefore super easy to control.

I used 2 coats over a base of Duri Rejuvacote and topped with G&G HK Girl topcoat.

F.U.N Lacquer Summer 2014 Margarita Cocktail holographic
F.U.N Lacquer Margarita Cocktail is a yellow/green shade, very vivid and bright, almost radioactive looking. It has a thinner and more sheer formula but isn't flooding your cuticles. The holo flame is nice and strong. Might look great in a gradient with Mowed Meadow!

I used 3 coats over a base of Duri Rejuvacote and topped with G&G HK Girl topcoat.

F.U.N Lacquer Summer 2014 Mowed Meadow holographic
F.U.N Lacquer Mowed Meadow is a vivid grass green with a gorgeous strong holographic effect. The formula was on the thicker side, applying like butter. I almost expected this one to have that delicious fresh cut grass smell.

I used 2 coats over a base of Duri Rejuvacote and topped with G&G HK Girl topcoat.

F.U.N Lacquer Summer 2014 Radiance holographic
F.U.N Lacquer Radiance is a true red holographic shade. This one I put on immediately when I didn't have time to swatch yet, and wore it for 2 days straight. All shades have an almost metallic finish, Radiance being the strongest one. The holographic effect is stronger than it shows in my pictures here. For reference see this Instagram picture. Again, great formula.

F.U.N Lacquer Summer 2014 Starry Night Of The Summer holographic
F.U.N Lacquer Starry Night Of The Summer is a super deep inky blue. This one is so opaque it drowns the holographic effect a bit, but it has the same striking darkness as Evening Gown. The formula is the thickest and most opaque but still good to manage.

I used 2 coats over a base of Duri Rejuvacote and topped with G&G HK Girl topcoat.

F.U.N Lacquer Summer 2014 Uniform For Summer: Bikini holographic
F.U.N Lacquer Uniform For Summer: Bikini is a pink shade. WARNING: it does stain. I used 2 coats of basecoat so it didn't affect my nails, but my cuticles got some nice pink stains when removing this. This will not be created after the initial batch sells out due to this issue. The formula is again great and easy to manage. Good strong holographic effect, too.

I used 2 coats over a base of Duri Rejuvacote and topped with G&G HK Girl topcoat.

F.U.N Lacquer Summer 2014 TGIF holographic
F.U.N Lacquer TGIF is the bonus shade and the odd one out regarding finish. Not only is there a gorgeous holographic effect, because of the coppery flakes in the base it has a foil like finish too. The holographic effect is strong and the formula thinner and more sheer, but not runny. I really love this one!

I'm just mad about Starry Night of the Summer. I was looking for such polish for a long time (buying lots of deep blue holos on the way haha).
Radiance is a second favourite, and I'm still on a fence about Mowed Meadow (don't know if it's too bright for me or just right bright :)).

  11. I am happy to hear you might have found that perfect deep blue holo then :-). Mowed Meadow is bright but still a good grassy shade, not neon ish or anything (I am not the biggest bright green fan either)
