Hi loves! Welcome to another installment of Learning the Lingo! In this series I will talk about products you might use maintaining your nails and such, what my favorite product is in that category and to keep it fun and to learn something, I'll tell you the Dutch word for it too :-D! I hope you enjoy this post, let's get started with today's subject.
Holography (wiki quote) - Holography is a technique which enables three-dimensional images (holograms) to be made. It involves the use of a laser, interference, diffraction, light intensity recording and suitable illumination of the recording. The image changes as the position and orientation of the viewing system changes in exactly the same way as if the object were still present, thus making the image appear three-dimensional.
The holographic recording itself is not an image; it consists of an apparently random structure of either varying intensity, density or profile.
The Dutch word for holographic is holografisch. Usually I just say holo or "OOH LOOK A RAINBOW!".
While holographic polishes used to be more rare, nowadays they are easy to find and even pop up in drugstore collections. The effect is very pretty and shows best in fluorescent light or sunlight, making you stare at your nails all the time. How the strong the effect is depends on the quality of pigment used and also the amount of it. There are true linear holo's, scattered holo's, polishes that combine those two effects and also holographic glitters. What they all have in common is that they can produce a little rainbow on your nails!
I think the most coveted holographic polish is Chanel Holographic. This silver based beauty produces an impressive holo flame! But also the China Glaze OMG collection as well as old OPI DS polishes still spark most people's interest, also because they became collectors items.
My personal favorite holographic polishes are from Too Fancy Lacquer and F.U.N Lacquer. These indies both produce lovely lacquers with outstanding formula's!
What's the word for holographic in your language? And what's your favorite holo brand or polish?
