Hugs for Emily

Hi loves! Today I have a very special post. You know I adore Emily from the blog Very Emily. Well unfortunately she is going through a difficult time and some of her best blogger buddies and I wanted to show our support by all recreating a mani of hers. Emily always does the most amazing nail art and a lot of it is freehanded, so I struggled a bit picking one I thought I could pull off! But in the end I settled with this black & white camouflage look - hopefully Em likes my recreation of these.

Other bloggers sending some virtual hugs to Emily today are Kelli from The Nail Polish Challenge, Alice from One Nail To Rule Them All, Lindsey from Wondrously Polished, Emiline from Nail Polish Society, Paulina from Paulina's Passions, Emily from The Lacquerologist, Sammy from The Nailasaurus, Lucy from Lucy's Stash and the thoughtful brains behind this whole thing, Sarah from Chalkboard Nails.

Like I said I was a bit intimidated at recreating one of Em's looks, so I went with the black & white camouflage print because I felt it had the most room for some trial and error. Here's what I used:
Essence Got A Secret (grey base)
Cirque Carpe Diem (white base and camouflage print)
Cirque Memento Mori (camouflage print)
A fine nail art brush (trimmed down version of the curved brush)
Straight vinyls

First thing I did was paint my basecolors. Both the grey and white needed 2 coats and I topped them with a thin layer of Cirque Liquid Laminate topcoat to speed up the drying process. Using the fine nail art brush and a drop of both my black & white color I painted the print on my index and pinky. Using some straight vinyls as a guide I painted a strip of the grey down my ring finger while a stud was placed using some topcoat as glue on my middle finger. When the grey strip dried I also painted the print on that part of my nail ^^.

All it needed after that was a layer of glossy topcoat to seal in the design and I was done! Not too intimidating after all, though I like Em's print way better than mine ;-).

Have you ever tried camouflage print nails? If so, what is your preferred color scheme? Tell me in the comments!
Dear Em, I hope you enjoyed all our recreations, know we love you and are thinking of you!
