Swatches & Review - China Glaze Road Trip for Spring 2015

Hi loves! Today I have a massive spam post to share with you, but I wanted to get these beauties out as soon as possible :-). It's the brand new China Glaze Road Trip collection for Spring 2015! This consists of 12 shades, some cremes and some shimmers. No glitters unfortunately. They have been released at Ulta already and I got them from an e-tailer that ships internationally if you are curious.

China Glaze Road Trip swatches review full collection

All swatches are done over a base of A-England The Knight and topped with G&G HK Girl Topcoat.

The shimmer that's present in some shades is gorgeous, coppery and warm and always visible, though it gives a pearly finish in some light. They could have put this kind of shimmer in each shade and it would make me happy. There isn't a glitter in the set which is a bit sad, and looking at the color palette these might remind you strongly of collections past. What the polishes all have in common is how shiny they all dry down, really lovely!

China Glaze Road Trip Boho Blues

China Glaze Road Trip Boho Blues

China Glaze Boho Blues is described as a soft indigo blue creme. I'll have to compare this to Sinful Colors Blue La La since it seems to be a lot like it. The formula has a slight jelly/crelly feel to it and therefore I used 3 coats to be sure of opacity. Depending on your nail length and polish application 2 could suffice as well.

China Glaze Road Trip Dashboard Dreamer

China Glaze Road Trip Dashboard Dreamer

China Glaze Dashboard Dreamer is described as a powder blue shimmer. Oooh, isn't this perfection? One of my favorites, definitely. Application was easy but you do need 3 coats for proper opacity. The shimmer is visible but not overpowering, like a veil of shimmer over the most delicate blue base.

China Glaze Road Trip I Brake for Colour

China Glaze Road Trip I Brake for Colour

China Glaze I Brake for Colour is described as a bright red-pink creme. Such a fun shade! Together with Pop The Trunk this is one of the variations on happy red. On the first coat it has this jelly/crelly feel, but 2 coats are enough for full coverage. I'm sorry about these swatches though as they aren't color accurate. The pink in this shade doesn't show at all!

China Glaze Road Trip License & Registration Pls

China Glaze Road Trip License & Registration Pls

China Glaze License & Registration Pls is described as a blue creme. Can't argue with that! It seems to be quite a unique blue in my stash, it isn't a navy shade nor sky blue, and I can't think of anything like it. Again, the first coat shows that jelly/crelly like coverage and then the 2nd coat is enough to reach opacity.

China Glaze Road Trip More To Explore

China Glaze Road Trip More To Explore

China Glaze More To Explore is described as a soft coral creme. What this shade reminds me of is Patrick. Yup, Patrick the starfish from Spongebob :D. Even though the polish has white in it, the formula is flowing well and doesn't apply uneven at all. 2 coats were all I used.

China Glaze Road Trip My Way Or The Highway

China Glaze Road Trip My Way Or The Highway

China Glaze My Way Or The Highway is described as a turquoise creme. I think there is another China Glaze shade like this but with shimmer. It feels very familiar to me. The formula is again that jelly/crelly like, and while I thought this would the the sheerest of the bunch when putting on the first coat, the second coat provided all the coverage I wanted! I did wrap my tips twice.

China Glaze Road Trip Pack Lightly

China Glaze Road Trip Pack Lightly

China Glaze Pack Lightly is described as a powder shimmery peach. Sounds pretty accurate! 2 coats are all you need with this one and I was pleasantly surprised how it looked on my tips. Peach isn't always my friend. But the shimmer, oooh the shimmer ♥.

China Glaze Road Trip Pinking Out the Window

China Glaze Road Trip Pinking Out the Window

China Glaze Pinking Out the Window is described as a salmon pink creme. This didn't really excite me,  it's definitely more pink than More To Explore but other than that I think they are too alike for me, I wouldn't have gotten both when I didn't want to swatch this whole set for you. 2 coats and without sounding boring, the same jelly/crelly formula.

China Glaze Road Trip Pop the Trunk

China Glaze Road Trip Pop the Trunk

China Glaze Pop the Trunk is described as a bright orange creme. Yup, it is definitely bright! No white in this shade at all. It was surprisingly sheer - somehow I still had some bald spots at 2 coats even though it flowed just like the other cremes. I used 3 coats.

China Glaze Road Trip Sun's Up, Top Down

China Glaze Road Trip Sun's Up, Top Down

China Glaze Sun's Up, Top Down is described as a bright yellow shimmer. If you like yellow, you need this. If you don't like yellow, you still need this ^^. The shimmer gives such a gorgeous effect paired with the yellow, and because of the shimmer the formula is also great! 3 easy and thin coats and you are done. Promised!

China Glaze Road Trip Trip of a Lime Time

China Glaze Road Trip Trip of a Lime Time

China Glaze Trip of a Lime Time is described as a lime green creme. A very happy shade! Normally I don't really go for greens like these but I definitely want to double stamp this, using black & white for a fun and stark contrast. It has the jelly/crelly formula like the other cremes and I used 3 coats for opacity.

China Glaze Road Trip Wanderlust

China Glaze Road Trip Wanderlust

China Glaze Wanderlust is described as a powder shimmery purple. In the bottle, this definitely reads lavender to me, but funny enough on the nails it's way more a soft cotton candy pink hue. Formula was good, 3 thin coats are all you need and it applies easy. So delicate!

Overall conclusion
I love this collection! The pretty shimmers, the nice creme shades, it´s just a winner for me. The formula is thin and flowing so don´t load up your brush or you´ll pool your cuticles, but other than that the formula on these is great. Applying and even and thin means you don´t get bulky nails and since they dry shiny you don´t need heavy duty topcoat to make something of the finish.

The winners for me are Wanderlust, Dashboard Dreamer, Trip Of A Limetime and because the formula is so great for a yellow, Sun´s Up Top Down.

You can find this at Ulta or online at www.head2toebeauty.com (that's where I got them).

Are you warming up to Spring colors already? And which of these is your favorite? Tell me in the comments!

  4. I'm loving Wanderlust, Pack Lightly, and Dashboard Dreamer. Cirque has a royal blue very similar to License & Reg and I feel like it's been everywhere lately. Can't wait to get those shimmers tho!

  5. Pack Lightly is my fave, but the cremes don't seem to be too ground-breaking. TBH, I will probably pick them up a few months when they go on clearance at Sally's. LOL

  30. This looks like a solid spring collection to me. I have to agree though that some of the creme shades aren't terribly unique (still pretty though). I gotta have that lime green and the yellow (even though I know it is going to look horrid against my skin tone, lol, but I have only 2 yellows in my stash).

  31. I believe I laughed a little too hard at the Patrick reference. It was one of those awkward moments where you laugh out loud in a public place and then look around to see if anyone noticed :-D

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh my goodness...I LOVE THESE! So many great cremes for nail art...and Trip Of A Lime Time?! That has my name written all over it!

  34. Dashboard Dreamer was the one I was most curious about but I don't like it as much as I expected tbh :(

    ReplyDelete
  35. So unfair!! I was thinking about a manicure with a white-ish base, gold leaf and black geometric stamping... and you stole my idea and executed it way better than I could ever do it :)
    Gorgeous as usual!

    ReplyDelete
  36. You know, I was trying to control my polish purchases and I was actually not doing too bad a job at it!!
Past tense... not anymore... want them all... *glares at Deborah*

Oooh! I didn't expect to love these as much as I do. Kind of need all the shades with shimmer and Boho Blues (I rarely find a blue I don't love!)

Oooooohhhh lordy me, I ordered the whole collection after seeing your swatches :D They are a lovely reprieve from all the glitters and textures and dark vampy and neon bright polishes. Spring palettes are my jam, and it looks like China Glaze nailed it this year! Thanks for the swatches!!!
