Splattered nails using Essie Penny Talk (a.k.a. a recipe for clean-up disaster.. or not?)

Hi loves! Woah can you tell I've been on a nailart kick lately? I really got my groove back and been enjoying stamping, but also gradients and even a splatter ^^. The reason I wouldn't do those too often is because clean-up can be a mess. Yeah, you can apply tape around your fingers but it would always get stuck to my nail instead of skin, or not be close enough to save me from the worst clean-up. But, with all the latex cuticle barriers out there clean-up is a breeze!

Want to read more about my look?

Like I said, latex cuticle barriers are the best thing released in the world of a nailart in a while. I prefer the El Corazon Cuticle Defender because of the regular polish brush. I'm a total klutz and while the Color4Nails Crystalline Nail Veil works the same, the skinny striper brush isn't for me. I've seensome glorious nailart created with the Color4Nails one though, so it'll definitely be used!

Now splatters are known for their gigantic mess. The splatter really gets everywhere and clean-up is especially terrible when you use a shimmery polish like Essie Penny Talk - the shimmer gets stuck all over your fingers! To create my look, I started with a minty green base from Kaleidoscope. I think the collection name translates to something as Sophisticated Polishaholic? Not sure haha. If you want to see all creme beauties in this check out this post. I needed 2 coats for my base and they applied quite easy - the polish seemed a bit uneven at first but it levels out nicely.

While I was letting my base dry I brushed on the El Corazon Cuticle Defender. Because I always get my fingers stuck together if I do all 5 at once, I now do pinky - middle finger - thumb, and after that my index and ring finger. That way your carefully applied barrier won't be peeled off because it's stuck to another finger...

The first round of splatter is Cirque Colors Carpe Diem, a nice creamy white. Then I added the sparkle using Essie Penny Talk, and finished by adding black with Cirque Colors Memento Mori. I really like how all the colors look together! Obviously after peeling away the latex I wasn't free from clean-up, but it was so much better compared to when I used tape or - the horror - nothing at all! To smooth it out and get a glossy finish, I topped it with Glisten & Glow HK Girl Topcoat.

Do you still do splatters sometimes? And what is your favorite clean-up method?
El Corazon is a Russian brand that has various nailpolish lines and also sells other make-up. You can find it on their own website - they ship internationally. You can also connect with them on Instagram.

If you prefer shopping with a more local e-tailer, why not try Hypnotic Polish? They are located in the Netherlands and also provide worldwide shipping.

You guessed right about the collection name ) maybe even something like "Nail polish nerd". And the author tried to use polishaholics' slang in the names of the polishes but did not really succeed :( it's a pity, because the idea was actually fantastic.
I tried Crystalline Nail Veil and I am quite satisfied with it. Oh, if only is didn't stink ))

  5. Love the look you've created!

Btw: if you want to avoid the latex to stick your fingers together you can dust it with powder or talc when dry. I find using a firm eyeshadow brush and lightly pressing it onto the latex works like a charm - bear in mind that it is important that the latex is completely dry, otherwise your brush will be ruined

  6. This looks so awesome! I love the color combination especially. Thanks for the tip about applying the nail veil to every other finger, I too have suffered from my fingers getting stuck together. lol

  7. Gorgeous! I love the addition of Penny Talk, even if can be a pain in the ass to get off your hands! The metallic pop really adds something extra to the splatter look.

  13. Aaah, thanks for the info! Bummer it didn't really work out, but now I am in doubt.. what does OCW stand for :D?

Ugh yes the stench, it's present in every latex product I tried so far. There seem to be some perfumed versions coming to the market though!

  19. It's so annoying, and almost impossible to get the latex to unstick without peeling it away completely!

  20. I always love metallics in splatter for that purpose, luckily the cuticle defender worked really well!
