Hi loves! Today I have something fun and quite unusual to share with you: the entire Dance Legend HammeRing collection! It consists of 6 metallic shades, all with the same finish - like hammered metal. Please note I swatched 4 of the shades with basecoat, which seemed to affect the final finish, so I included a skittle picture with those 4 shades to make up for it. Also, a while back my cuticle got infected and now my nail is growing out with a dent near my cuticle, which is more noticeable with the metallic finish.
Curious to see the rest?
Dance Legend HammeRing All or Nothing is a gold shade. This one didn't work on me at all with basecoat, and only slightly when swatched without basecoat. 1 coat, no topcoat.
Dance Legend HammeRing As You Wish is a pink shade, the pigment didn't seem to be mixed in properly with the metallic particles though it didn't affect application. Didn't work properly over basecoat but behaved better without the base. 1 coat, no topcoat.
Dance Legend HammeRing Constant Reminder is a mint green shade, I quite liked this one. Seemed to work okay even with basecoat, but worked better without. 1 coat, no topcoat.
Dance Legend HammeRing Creep is a light blue shade. I did swatch it over a base but it seemed to work okay even with the base. 1 coat, no topcoat.
Dance Legend HammeRing Map of Scars is a plum shade, quite dark and moody which I love ;-). This was swatched without basecoat and as you can see, it has a way better effect. 1 coat, no topcoat.
Dance Legend HammeRing Waking the Demon is a silver shade. Not the most unique color but with the unusual finish it's still an eyecatcher. Also swatched without basecoat. 1 coat, no topcoat.
Overall conclusion
While not every shade had the same hammered finish, I quite like the idea and the fact a brand tries something new. After the texture trend this seems like a new fun twist on the theme. While it looks bumpy and cracked, it actually feels smooth. The polishes applied easily, all in 1 coat and with the larger brush that comes in the Dance Legend mini bottles, I barely needed any clean up. It's a shame you can't wear any basecoat with these because I'm scared my nails will get stained without it. I also tried topcoat on a nailwheel and it did seem to smooth the finish a bit, but not too bad.
My favorite shades are Map of Scars and Constant Reminder, the one I'd leave behind is definitely All or Nothing.
Have you ever seen a polish with a finish like this? And how do you feel about it? Tell me in the comments!
Dance Legend is sold through their own webshop, though it's not open right now. Dance Legend HammeRing shades come in 6.5 ml. bottles.
There are also a few retailers listed on their website if you prefer shopping with a more local webshop. Hypnotic Polish is one of them and is based in The Netherlands - shipping worldwide! You can also find Dance Legend on Facebook and Instagram.
I was not overwhelmed by this collection when I saw blog reviews, but when I tried one on my nails - whoa! It was so exciting to watch how the pattern emerged, I even wanted to make a movie of the process :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about appreciating brands that try something new. This new finish, if we can call it that way, is not up my alley though!
ReplyDeleteCool of them to try something new for sure but not really my cup of tea. Great swatches though!
ReplyDeleteWell the fact that they're trying something different is great, but I really don't like this new finish. Maybe it could work as a base for a stamping I guess ! But thank you for the swatches !! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat!? I've never seen anything like it before and I love it! It looks so cool! I'm especially fond of the plum and silver ones. They look like real metal! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of this finish, a lot. I don't like how finicky it is. I agree that I just need to have a base coat all of the time because I've been burned by stainers and ruined by glitters one too many times.
ReplyDeleteHmm, not really my cup of tea, especially considering how troublesome they are.
ReplyDeleteI wonder though, since they are 1 coaters, do they stamp well? it probably won't give the hammered effect but If you won't wear them because you can't use basecoat, you could always stamp with them!
I'm also with you : I also like when brands go for something new and unusual - I favor the finish on Map the Scars and Waking the Demon.
ReplyDeleteThese are so peculiar, I haven't made my mind up about them yet! I'll wait until I've swatched them before I decide, it's interesting that the finish is smooth despite them looking bumpy. Great swatches!
ReplyDeleteThe first few don't look that appealing to me, but Map of Scars looks really cool! The name though.. I don't know why it kind of turns me off.
ReplyDeleteNot as wowed by the first few either, but the plum and the silver are awesome!
ReplyDeleteWow I am usually behind texture polishes, but this time I think I am going to have to pass on these. There's just something about the color and metallic that don't blend together very well for me. Such a shame.
ReplyDeleteThis is the first time I've ever seen polishes like this. I'm so intrigued by them!! I agree with Allie, I'm not sure yet what to think of them either, I will have to judge when I see them in person. Your swatches are great though!
ReplyDeleteThese are straaaange! But I quite like the ones where the effect is clearly visible. I could become a fan. I'd really love to try them out and see what I think, lol!
ReplyDeleteI'm still scratching my head at these but I think I like them. I think. I don't know? I love the last swatches of them. Kind of looks like marbled metal?
ReplyDeleteI cant decide if I like these are not, they're intriguing but also a bit odd. I love your swatches though!
ReplyDeleteI really love the effect you got with the ones that you didn't use basecoat with. I think it's a neat finish!
ReplyDeleteIt's very interesting to watch for sure! I was kinda bummed the effect didn't turn out as strong on my nails but I may give some of these another shot with a different (or no) basecoat.
ReplyDeleteI can understand these aren't for you, I'm still on the fence as well ;-).
ReplyDeleteThanks Cheyenne :-).
